We are fucked. Let’s just say it. We are awaiting results from Dr. Christopher Ahmad, the Yankees’ team physician. Just hearing that name connected to Aaron Judge is enough to make your stomach turn.
Judge looked like he hurt his elbow while making a throw from the outfield in Toronto. He’s out of the lineup today. The team is reviewing imaging with the one doctor you never want involved unless things are seriously wrong.
The timing couldn’t be worse. The Yankees had an off day Thursday. They followed it with an extremely sloppy game. Just bad baseball from a team that already feels like it’s circling the drain. Now their captain might be seriously hurt.
This team is nothing without Aaron Judge. That’s not an opinion. That’s a fact. He is the offense. He is the leader. He is the heartbeat of a franchise that already looks like it’s falling apart. Without him, they are painfully average.
So what’s the plan now? The trade deadline is coming. But if Judge is hurt, what’s the point? This is not a team that’s 1 piece away. They should not be buyers. They should not pretend this year can be saved. There is no version of this roster that works without #99 in it every day.
It feels like every year ends in pain. Now all we can do is wait. Refresh our phones. Hope for a miracle.
The season is hanging by a thread. That thread is Aaron Judge’s elbow.
