Running backs are usually the smart play early in fantasy drafts. But sometimes a wide receiver’s talent, consistency and upside make the choice obvious. That’s the case with Ja’Marr Chase. After a ridiculous 2024 season and a new contract that makes him the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history, Chase is locked in as my #3 overall fantasy football pick in 2025.
In 2024, Chase led the league with 127 receptions, 1,708 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 100.5 yards per game and finished the season with over 20 fantasy points per game. He had multiple monster performances that swung matchups by himself, including 41.3 points against the Ravens in Week 5, 55.4 points against the Ravens again in Week 10, and 45.1 points against Dallas in Week 14. These weren’t just strong games. They were week winners.
The Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase connection remains the most automatic duo in football. Dating back to their days at LSU, the chemistry is elite. Burrow throws it with anticipation while Chase creates instant separation and turns short routes into explosive plays. His ability to make defenders miss after the catch is what truly makes him dangerous. He is not just putting up volume. He is shredding defenses with it.
The Bengals rewarded him with a 4 year 161 million dollar deal that includes 112 million guaranteed, making him the highest paid non quarterback in league history. That kind of commitment shows just how much this offense runs through him. Chase has posted at least 1,046 yards and 7 touchdowns in every season of his career. After leading the NFL across the board in 2024, he is firmly established as the focal point of the Bengals offense.
Chase’s 2024 fantasy value also benefited from how poor the Bengals defense was. Cincinnati was in constant shootouts, which meant more passing volume and more opportunities for Chase to produce. Even if the defense improves in 2025, his role remains elite. He is game script proof.
Ja’Marr Chase isn’t a running back, but he is more reliable than most of them in fantasy football. He’s explosive, consistent, and tied to one of the league’s best quarterbacks. He just had a historic season, got paid like a superstar, and enters 2025 as one of the safest and most dangerous picks on the board.
