Should the Yankees Trade Trent Grisham to Make Room for Spencer Jones?
Spencer Jones just hit 3 home runs in a game. He’s now batting .410 with a 1.441 OPS for Scranton. He leads all of MiLB with 29 homers. In just 19 games at AAA he already has 13 HRs.
I know the outfield is crowded. You’ve got Judge, Bellinger, Domínguez, and Grisham. But here’s the truth. There should always be room for a guy who looks like he’s turning into a superstar. Spencer Jones is that guy.
This doesn’t seem like some fluke hot streak. He has freakish power, improved contact and legit athleticism.
So what’s the move?
Trade Trent Grisham. That might sound harsh. I could be very wrong about this, and I almost feel disgusting writing it. Grisham has been a solid fill-in and has done everything the Yankees have asked of him. But he’s not part of the long-term plan. Spencer Jones is. Domínguez is. Judge obviously is. Bellinger, hopefully. Grisham is a free agent this winter.
Cashman has moved rental pieces before. Move Grisham while his value is high and get something useful back. The Yankees need relievers and a 3rd baseman. Then use that spot to bring Spencer Jones to the Bronx.
We always hear about the Yankees needing a spark. Well here’s your spark, hitting bombs for Scranton and waiting by the phone.
Don’t wait for next year. Spencer Jones is ready.
