If you’re still not blaming Aaron Boone at this point, something is seriously wrong.
Tonight in Toronto was another meltdown.
Aaron Judge tied the game in the 6th with a 2 run homer that should have flipped the momentum. The Yankees had life.
But the team gave it right back.
In the bottom of the 6th, Cody Bellinger lost a ball in right. Ben Rice botched a grounder at first. Jasson Dominguez misjudged a liner in left. 3 defensive miscues in 2 innings led directly to 4 runs. The Blue Jays did not overpower the Yankees. They simply executed while the Yankees failed to do the basics.
The final score was 8-4. The Yankees have now lost 6 of 7 to Toronto this season. They are 4 games back in the standings. Every head to head game has exposed the same issues: sloppy defense, poor focus, and zero accountability.
The offense got home runs from Judge, Dominguez, and Volpe. It still was not enough. This team collapses in the biggest moments and has for years.
This is year 8 of Aaron Boone. The same lazy defense. The same careless baserunning. The same quiet dugout that watches loss after loss with no fire and no consequences.
Even if it is not all Boone’s fault, a change is overdue. A new voice in that dugout might not solve everything, but it would send a message that this level of play is no longer acceptable. Right now it feels like failure is just business as usual.
Judge did everything he could to carry them tonight. The rest of the team fell apart. That is the Boone Era in one game.
