Yankees Open Up In Toronto With A Brutal Loss

The Yankees rolled into Toronto on Monday with a chance to gain ground in the AL East.

Instead, they left the door wide open and the Blue Jays kicked it in.

New York dropped the opener 4-1 in a game that had everything you hate to see. Ugly defense. Zero clutch hitting. Lifeless energy. Carlos Rodón didn’t have his best stuff, but he gave them a chance. The defense made sure it didn’t matter.

The fifth inning was a meltdown. Oswald Peraza threw one away, Anthony Volpe followed with another error, and just like that the Jays scored four. Two of those runs were earned, the other two were gift-wrapped. This was not Major League Baseball. This was a circus.

Stanton hit a solo shot in the fourth. That was the entire offense. One swing. Five hits total. Twelve strikeouts. Absolutely no fight.

Gausman shoved. 8 strikeouts over 7 innings. But let’s be honest, this Yankees lineup has been making a lot of pitchers look good.

With the loss, the Yankees fall to 55-45. The Blue Jays move 4 games up in the division. This wasn’t just a rough night. This was a statement. Toronto looks like a team chasing October. The Yankees look like a team chasing its tail.

This game was hard to watch. The errors were brutal. The bats were quiet. The vibes were horrendous. And the worst part? There are still two more games to go in this series.
