Aaron Boone Needs To Win It All In 2025

Aaron Boone finally got the Yankees over the hump in 2024. He brought home an AL pennant and got the team back to the World Series for the first time since 2009. For a moment, all the criticism faded.

But here we are again. Back to the same old questions. The Yankees are underachieving. They’re sloppy. And Boone? He’s back on the mic giving us the same postgame soundbites about “turning the page” and “believing in this group.” At some point, enough is enough. Yes, 2024 was a step forward. But is one pennant in seven seasons with one of the highest payrolls in baseball really enough?

Boone’s had Judge in his prime, Gerrit Cole, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, and a parade of All-Stars. But the results haven’t matched the talent. This isn’t just about wins and losses. It’s about accountability.

The Yankees play sloppy way too often. They make base-running mistakes, miss signs, and constantly look out of sync. At some point, you have to play crisp, fundamental baseball. If I see one more mental lapse or blown routine play, I’m going to lose my mind. Boone is likable. The players respect him. But the bar in New York isn’t being respected in the clubhouse. It’s championships. It’s rings. And right now, the Yankees are looking more like a team going through the motions than one ready to win it all.

So yes, Boone got the Yankees back to the World Series. That matters. But if 2025 ends in anything short of a championship, it can’t be brushed off again. This is year eight. There are no more moral victories. No more “they battled” speeches. If the Yankees come up short, the front office has to make a change. Aaron Boone needs to win it all this year. Or the Yankees need to find someone who will.
