Jeff Gorton strikes again and flat out STEALS (and rescues) defenseman Jacob Trouba from Winnipeg.
I’m still in shock over how little it cost to pry (?) the 25 year old away from the Jets. I mean, Neal Pionk and first rounder (originally Winnipeg’s as part of the Kevin Hayes trade)… only? After reading what the potential price tag might be from Larry Brooks’ article a few days ago, it felt like the ship was sailing on a potential Trouba move. But now, the Rangers have brought Brady Skei’s BFF to Broadway.
Now, the Rangers still have work to do regarding JT (hello, Isles fans) and extending him to a long term deal but that seems like a formality, albeit an expensive one but not quite Erik Karlsson expensive. While he’s not a superstar, Trouba is a top line defenseman and fits the Rangers rebuild plans perfectly.
Between the Adam Fox acquisition, landing the #2 overall pick in Friday’s NHL draft, and now this, the Rangers offseason is off to an unreal start. Jeff Gorton and co. should feel giddy about this summer and the progress made, but if they land the Breadman on July 1st….
