Flacco Fallout for Giants

The number of teams looking for a quarterback got reduced by one today. The Broncos trade for Joe Flacco has effectively taken them out of the QB market, which bodes well for the New York Football Giants.

Several other teams still remain in the fold for a QB including the Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins with the Giants.

I think connecting Nick Foles to the Jags make a ton of sense given that Jacksonville is in win now mode. That leaves the Dolphins and ‘Skins to sift through the rest of the options. Teddy Bridgewater, Case Keenum and the draft featuring Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Daniel Jones, and Drew Lock.

The Giants NEED to be in on one of the QBs in the draft for two prime reasons. One, to be Eli’s replacement. It’s time – this is about a season overdue and I will go to the grave arguing that Saquon was the wrong pick at #2 last year. Two, given the roster construction of the Giants, inserting a QB on a rookie contract could make them a contender sooner rather than later.

The guy I want is Haskins. I see him being a hybrid between a poor man’s Big Ben without the baggage. What I like about Haskins is that he strikes me as high floor prospect. While I don’t envision him taking the league by storm and being a superstar, I don’t think that should be a deterrent in Big Blue finally moving on from #10. In fact, Haskins’ high floor, mistake free game and quiet demeanor game fits in perfectly with this Giants team. He’s mobile enough, like Big Ben, to make up for the offensive line deficiencies, too.

This will be another pivotal off-season for Big Blue and it’ll be interesting to see if they finally bring in Eli’s successor come the draft on April 25th.

Whether they trade up or stay at the sixth pick, I don’t care. Get me THE Ohio State kid!
