Unfortunately, It’s Time To Root For Boston

I hate to say it but it is time to root for Boston, well sort of. I do not like the Celtics. I hate Boston sports but the Celtics show hope. The Celtics show that sometimes the talent doesn’t matter. Now do not get me wrong the Celtics had amazing talent like Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving but then they went down and others had to step up. Queue Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford.

Tatum was the 3rd overall pick in last years draft and at the time looked like a decent compensation after trading back instead of taking Markelle Fultz. Tatum had a solid season but has come alive in the playoffs. Tatum went from a decent compensation to a stud in the postseason. Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart have come out and made a statement this postseason and showed they could succeed without a major star. Al Horford has been the veteran presence he was signed to be.

ESPN wrote an article before the playoffs listing guys they thought could breakout this postseason. Not even the most optimistic fan would have predicted Terry Rozier would break out the way he has. Rozier has lived up to the potential that everyone thought years ago he could become. Now Rozier has become a star for the Celtics and should win postseason MVP even if they get ousted against the Cavs.

All of this is impressive and these guys have been phenomenal this postseason but the credit for all of Boston’s success is Brad Stevens. When Stevens was hired to coach the Celtics fans yelled and whined and now he has led them to the playoffs again and made it to the eastern conference finals yet again. He has coached a team that has lost Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward to success. Stevens should win coach of the year, as he has cemented himself as one of the top coaches in the league.

So why wouldn’t you root for the team that has overcome so much or against the era of super teams. I don’t hate Lebron or the Warriors but its time for a change. The Rockets are talented and will push the Warriors and it would be cool to see them succeed. Now, the Celtics have 4 young starters and a veteran center who along with a coach are hard to root against. I hate everything about Boston sports, and most of the time I do not like the Celtics. I can not believe I am saying this but I hope the Celtics win the finals and if not good luck to the Rockets.
